“Embrace”, permanent installation in the Exploration Tower, Port Canaveral, FL, 2013

The sea cradles the entire Eco-system that exists within; water becomes part of a beautiful dance embracing Earth in the harmonious continuation of life.

In 2013 I was invited to submit a proposal of environmental art for the lobby of the new welcome center in Port Canaveral. After submitting a binder full of materials I was awarded this fantastic opportunity to create a permanent installation in the overhead space of the lobby of this beautiful building, which was later named the Exploration Tower. The coast of Florida is designated as right whale critical habitat by the National Marine Fisheries Service.

Embrace was inspired by local marine life and contains some plastics collected locally from a beach clean up. This project is especially close to my heart since I had envisioned whales spiraling up to surface in a dance of life the year before.
