I am working on an installation for the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory to be completed next Spring. It will be a space that merges the above-ground and under water forests together, with sea creatures like jellyfish, kelp, dolphins, sea anemone and corals all made of plastic waste.
“Bio” was commissioned by the Cherry Creek Arts Festival in Denver, CO, for their “Arrow Five Years Out Art Challenge”. With the theme of innovation and technology they asked the artists to imagine what the world might be in 5 years.
I wanted this piece to be a cross between bird, lizard, and some kind of aircraft or spaceship because it seems to me that modern science keeps blurring the boundaries between species, between natural and artificial, and even what’s alive and what is not.
“Flame” was created during the third annual “From Waste to Art” exhibition in Azerbaijan in May 2014, hosted by the Tamiz Shahar recycling company.
